Sri Jammulamma Devatha Devasthanam in Gadwal

The Sri Jammulamma Devatha Devasthanam in Jammiced village on the banks of River Krishna is considered very divine and highly spiritual pilgrim by the locals in Gadwal. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ammavaru popularly called as Jammulamma.

Sri Jammulamma Devatha Devasthanam in GadwalThere is an interesting story behind the importance of Jammulamma temple. Very long ago a farmer was ploughing his field in Jammiced and to do his work efficiently he placed a big stone rock near the field on his ploughing land. That day his work went really well on the filed so he left the field in the evening without replacing the rock to its actual place and went home. The next day when he came back to work on his field he found the stone back to its actual place. The farmer again shifted the stone to his field and started working. The farmer on finishing his day’s work went home again without replacing the rock back to its actual place.

The third day when the farmer came to his field to work he was again surprised to find the rock stone back to its actual places. He again shifted the rock to his field and started working. By evening on finishing his work he didn’t went home instead stayed by the nearby bushes to check on how the rock is getting moved to its actual place. He waited all night and started to sleep. By midnight 12 ‘o’ clock he saw the rock transformed to a beautiful Goddess in white attire and in few minutes it again changed to rock to its actual place.

The farmer in witnessing the incident went to his village and informed all the villagers. To prove the event to the villagers the villagers the farmer took every one to his field and places the rock back to his field and they all waited the whole night to see the transformation. Exactly by 12 ‘0’ clock again the rock changed to Goddess and then to rock to its actual place.

The Jammiched villagers decided to build a temple for the Goddess and they constructed it. The farmers in Gadwal believed worshiping Goddess Ammavaru will give them good harvest. So worshiping Goddess Ammavaru is a traditional event before sowing. Pandavas were given first preference in worshiping the Goddess. The Gadwal rulers also worship Goddess Ammavaru.
