Gadwal city is located on the banks of River Krishna in Mahbubnagar district of Telangana. It is located at a distance of 61 km away from the district Headquarters Mahbubnagar and 190 km away from the state capital Hyderabad. The city belongs to Deccan region of South India. Gadwal city covers a total area of 12.62 sq km within its boundary. Gadwal city is elevated at a height of 324 meters above sea level that is about 1063 feet and it got its co-ordinates at 16.23° North latitude and 77.8° East longitude. Gadwal municipality is established by the Indian constitution in the year 1950 as a 3rd grade municipality later in 2011 Gadwal is upgraded to 2nd grade municipality. The Gadwal municipality governs the city under various sections like the public health section, engineering section, town planning section, accounts section, UPSP section and revenue section.

Gadwal Samsthanam in Gadwal
Gadwal city was once the Headquarters of Gadwal Samsthanam which was a feudatory or vassal to the Nizam of Hyderabad. Gadwal Samsthanam was a part of Raichur district once and was one of the three vitla samsthanams in India apart from the Jatprole samsthanam and Wanaparthy samsthanam.Once of the popular Ayngarashakulu of Gadwal Samsthanam during the regime of Somanadri was Nagi Reddy popular called as Nagappa who dies in battle filed against sultans. Later Nagappa son Narsappa succeeded his father as the next Ayngarashakulu of the samsthanam but he too died in the same battle against sultans.
